We enjoyed presentations by two DOLCE speakers on Friday, March 6, 2026.
Dr. Jane Beal
from our Writing Center spoke on “Using Short Video Clips and Info
Graphics to teach Reflection on Learning Effectively in the Virtual
Classroom.” She talked about the ways she uses short videos and
infographics to encourage reflection and student understanding in her
writing classes.
Dr. Robin Decker from Evolution
and Ecology spoke on “From equations on paper to interactive models:
Teaching quantitative modeling with Google Sheets.” Professor Decker discussed her experience using Google Sheets to give students
practice with mathematical modeling, moving mathematical models from
static equations on paper to interactive tools that students can
manipulate and visualize. She described how she structured and
implemented the spreadsheet activities in an upper-division ecology
course, as well as what she has observed about student learning and
engagement.
