Academic Technology Services hosted a Faculty Forum on
Preparing for ADA Title II Regulation Changes for Digital Accessibility.
As many of you may know, from communications from the U.S. Department of Justice and UC Office of the President,
all large public and private universities are facing a nationwide
accessibility deadline. Starting April 2026, and moving forward, our
public-facing communications, including the content in our UC Davis
Canvas course pages, must be made accessible to all members of the
intended audiences, including our students with various disabilities.
Sir
Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of what we once called the World Wide Web,
famously said “The web is humanity connected by technology.” As we
review, explore, and collaborate on implementing these federal
regulations on digital accessibility, we will discover how we can
continue to imbue new communications and educational technologies with
humanity, all while continuing to teach effectively.
At our
faculty forum, we discussed these efforts with faculty who have
already taken steps to make their courses more accessible, as well as
with those who want to share their questions and concerns. ATS and CEE
experts on instructional technology and accessibility were on hand;
we were also joined by Wendi Delmendo, campus Chief Compliance
Officer, and Brad Starkey-Owens, our campus Digital Accessibility
Program Manager.
