Our October Faculty Forum focused on student response systems,
especially iClicker. Studies show that students learn more from classes
where they are invited or even required to participate. Many small
seminars depend upon engaging conversations to drive the curriculum,
while those of us who teach larger classes depend on technologies of
various sorts to bridge various divides, whether concerning classroom
geography, learning styles, or Myers-Briggs type indications.
We
were joined by a number of knowledgeable “plants” in the room,
including Victoria Cross (Psychology), Laci Gerhart (Evolution and
Ecology), and Joël Porquet-Lupine (Computer Science).
As a bonus, this Faculty Forum featured an additional optional webinar, taught by Melissa O'Brien from MacMillan, to introduce instructors to iClicker. Please
watch the short "Intro to iClicker" webinar.
