Abstract: I will walk you through my story, starting with how I landed in the undergraduate physics program at UC Davis as a transfer student, to the realization as I earned my BA in Physics that I did not want to become a physics professor after all, to
my exploration into the world of collegiate coaching that followed, and continues to this day. I will share how my physics education has helped me in my coaching career, and how my journey can be a lesson to all in following your heart.
Bio: Sara is currently finishing up her first year as the head coach of the women’s tennis team at UC Davis. Leading up to this year, she served as the assistant coach for the Aggies for a total of 19 years, covering two stints. From 2009 to 2013, Sara served as the head women’s tennis coach at American River College. Throughout her coaching career, she has held various other positions on campus and in the Davis community, including serving as a lecturer in the Physical Education department, the head tennis professional at El Macero Country Club, and a virtual wellness coach for Ingomu, a platform designed to enhance personal and professional growth through coaching. Sara completed her BA in Physics from UC Davis in 2001 while competing as a captain of the women’s tennis team. She earned her MS in Kinesiology in 2007 from Sacramento State. She lives in West Sacramento with her husband Preston, and their3 daughters Reese (14), Olivia (14), and Peyton (10).
