I will discuss my implementation of exam wrappers in my
general chemistry and upper division chemistry courses. Exam wrappers
encourage students to reflect on their exam performance and on the
effectiveness of their exam preparation. The exam wrappers are
administered as google forms following the return of the first graded
exam, and students receive a small number of points towards their exam
score for completing the exercise. I ask students in my classes to
adopt a growth mindset, and the exam wrapper is designed to help
students use their mistakes as learning opportunities and identify
high-impact study practices to use for subsequent exams. I will share
what I have learned from student responses, and the effects of this
exercise on my teaching.
