This interview is with Karl Levitt, Professor of Computer
Science Emeritus. He was appointed in 1986 and retired in 2018.
His primary research
and teaching
interests involve computer security, a pressing challenge as
we increasingly
depend on computers and computer networks which are being
misused at an
alarmingly growing rate threatening critical operations in
addition to users'
personal information. During his tenure at UC Davis, he spent
four years at the
National Science Foundation as the lead program director for
the Foundation's
computer security program where he also advised various U.S.
Government
agencies on technical and policy issues related to security.
He is interviewed by
his longstanding
colleague and friend, Matt Bishop, Professor of Computer
Science.
