Summer Talks: Careers in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine series is presented by the faculty in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UC Davis Health during summer 2020. The presenters talk about career paths in pathology and laboratory medicine, exciting research, clinical laboratory medicine, and describe a typical day in their professional life. These talks are aimed at undergraduate students and others interested in health sciences and medicine.
Our speaker on Thursday, July 23, 11:00 AM, is Dr. Verónica Martínez Cerdeño, Ph.D., Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UC Davis, who is also faculty member at the Institute for Pediatric Regenerative Medicine, the Shriners Hospital of Northern California, the MIND Institute, the Center for Neuroscience, and the UC Davis Stem Cell Program.
Dr. Martínez Cerdeño conducts research on the anatomy and pathology of autism and related disorders, as well as the role of stem cells in the development, evolution, and pathogenesis of the mammalian cerebral cortex. Her clinical interests include autism, fragile X, FXTAS, cortical evolution and development, neural stem cells, and neuroanatomy.
