This interview is with John Meyer. Noteworthy is that John's "Aggie experience" dates to his arrival as an undergraduate in 1976.
John was appointed Vice Chancellor for Resource Management and Planning in 2000 and retired as Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Resource Management in 2014. His portfolio included over 1,600 staff and coverage of planning, budget, facilities, utilities, grounds, accounting and financial services, human resources, safety services, and police and fire departments.
During his tenure as Vice Chancellor, John oversaw a long list of building projects, including West Village, the nation’s largest planned net-zero-energy community, as well as other less visible changes, like the implementation of a new incentive-based budgeting model, and forging strong relationships with the town and other partners. His collaborative work enhanced the sustainability efforts of campus while keeping it running.
In retirement John has continued many pro bono consulting activities and with continued contributions to UCD and UC through service as President of the UCD Retirees' Association and Chair of the Council of UC Retiree Associations. He enjoys hiking, cycling, backpacking, golf, and travelling with his wife as well as everyday life in Davis, his home for 50 years.
He is interviewed by his colleague, Mary Delany, Professor Emerita of Animal Science.
