As university language educators continue to blend online and in-person learning, being able to effectively leverage Canvas tools turns out to be key to pedagogical success. In this interactive talk, UC Davis Educational Technologist Steve Faith will share techniques for extending classroom teaching using the Canvas Learning Management System, addressing audience questions submitted electronically in advance. Attendees will learn about current best practices in the use of communication, collaboration, assessment, and organization tools that increase target language use, build community, and motivate participation in university-level language courses. The pedagogical goal is to learn how to create complementary face-to-face and online learning environments that provide optimal conditions for second language development. Educators will leave equipped with actionable strategies to enrich their classroom language teaching with online Canvas components.
