This work presents the development of a battery-less through metal power transfer and
communication system with > 1m distance. Using custom designed magnetic dipoles, we have
extended the range of power and data transfer for sensor nodes enclosed inside metal barriers.
At a distance of 1 m, experimental results demonstrate that we can harvest at least 400 W and
the total rectified DC power is more than 300 W. The harvested power is enough to operate a
battery-less through metal communication system. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of
the first demonstrations of power transfer through metal at such large distances.
