Can stem cells restore vision? A new clinical trial from UC Davis Health explores a promising new treatment for retinitis pigmentosa (RP) — a rare genetic eye disease that causes progressive vision loss and even blindness.
Dr. Susanna Park and her team are using gene-agnostic stem cell therapy to help patients with RP, regardless of their genetic mutation. In early results, participants reported their vision loss had stopped progressing, and some even say they saw improvement. Dr. Park also warns against unlicensed stem cell treatments.
