During this DOLCE, Walter Leal,
distinguished professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular
Biology, presented a talk titled “How September 11th Changed the Way I
Deliver Instruction.” Walter Leal’s talk presents insights on how to
integrate instructional video in a variety of ways to increase student
engagement. His use of instructional video includes the following:
- inviting renowned scholars from around the world as guest speakers into his class,
- sharing
introductory videos before the course even begins to prepare students
for the expectations of the course as well as to allow students the
opportunity to connect with their new professor, and
- integrating video to explain difficult and complicated course concepts outside of class time.
