On Friday, November 15th,
Academic Technology Services hosted a Faculty Forum on
authentic assessments in the age of GenAI.
Professor Jay Stachowicz from Evolution and Ecology, winner of the most recent UC Davis Prize for Undergraduate Teaching and Scholarly Achievement, has raised some compelling concerns regarding encouraging and maintaining academic integrity in students completing research papers and take-home exams. Participants in our Faculty Forum followed his lead into a conversation about guiding our students towards mastery in course content when many of them are frequently choosing also to be guided by ChatGPT.
We were joined by Professor Stachowicz and by Marilyn Derby, Associate Director of the UC Davis Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs.
