On November 30th, 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT 3.0 to the public. Fear, anxiety, and panic mixed with enthusiasm as writers ranging from students to lawyers, novelists to technical communicators, and business writers to poets played with ChatGPT. In the year that has followed, writing with Generative AI (GenAI) has become increasingly common. We are delighted to invite you to a conversation with five professionals about how they have used AI in professional writing contexts.

Sample syllabus statements about use of GenAI:
Here are a few sample syllabus statements (put together by the Center for Educational Effectiveness): https://cee.ucdavis.edu/introduction-generative-ai
From Mark Verbitsky to Everyone: FWIW here's my syllabus language:
"Academic Integrity: In all of your work for this course, you are expected to adhere to the University of California’s policies regarding academic honesty and integrity. All work should be your own, not copied from other sources. Note that the use of a generative AI program constitutes plagiarism. I hope you that aspire to learn and improve your thinking such that you can be more competent and thoughtful than an automated chatbot, but please note that I will be using AI detection software. To avoid any potential bias with students, I send every suspected case of cheating and plagiarism to the office of Student Judicial Affairs. Please consult this guide to understand the different forms of plagiarism: http://sja.ucdavis.edu/files/plagiarism.pdf"

It's really interesting to ask how much genAI is like a calculator or not. There are a bunch of articles exploring this question. I haven't read this so not endorsing, but here's a link: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/23735082.2023.2261106

an article that talks about that idea of language varieties: 7/10/2023 - “AI Has a Language Diversity Problem. Humans Do, Too.” [insidehighered.com] by Susan D’Agostino. Will the use of AI in writing contribute to the reduction of language varieties? That would be a shame.
