In this conversation , Emeritus Professor Fred Block discusses his career at the University of California at Davis, including important persons and events that shaped his interests and scholarship. How he came to the Davis campus and his experiences, relationships and accomplishments as a member of the University and the local community. He is known for his contributions to political sociology and economic sociology. He has played a particularly important role in the revival of interest in the work of Karl Polanyi, a refugee Hungarian intellectual, who was one of the 20th century's most incisive critics of the idea that markets can and should be self-regulating.
