Today's lecture from Prof. Lybrand, our guest lecturer, we will introduce and explore physical and chemical weathering, including specific types and evidence, and how different rocks respond to drivers of weathering and erosion (how are these different?). We will also introduce the history of Earth's atmosphere and learn about Great Oxygenation Event (or was it a Catastrophe!). Lastly, we will introduce the chemistry of the carbonate-silicate cycle that has kept Earth's climate stable over long periods of geologic time and the role of limestone in this cycle.
