This discussion will focus on actions that instructors can take to prepare and empower their Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) to provide undergraduates with a positive educational experience. Topics will include how to establish a collaborative and inclusive culture among the GTA team, the importance of regularly scheduled communication from the instructor, a format for weekly meetings and how constructive feedback from the instructor can help GTAs improve their teaching. Tips with examples from the speaker’s lived experience leading a large enrollment lower-division communication and design course will be provided.
