This talk was given at the 2023 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology.
In this Live-Action Presentation I will illustrate some of the ways that I use google docs in my upper division writing courses to facilitate engagement, deepen classroom discussions and much more. I will highlight a low-stakes reflection exercise that plays an outsized role in helping establish expectations, provide inspiration and expose students to important elements of how our course works. This quick, relatively easy exercise showcases how dynamic reflection can be, and blessedly, also provides a strong base upon which one can begin to build their classes in the next quarter. Attendees will leave with a fresh take on how easily google docs can be integrated into their courses to help them develop tools, strategies and approaches that will enhance their own pedagogy, and thus, the success of their students. All this and it’s just google docs, so you don’t even have to download anything.
