Dr Jonathan Eisen is a Professor at the University of California, Davis with appointments in the Department of Evolution and Ecology, the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, and the Genome Center. He is the Director of the UC Davis Microbiome Special Research Program and he is an elected member of the American Academy of Microbiology. In his research Dr. Eisen applies genomic tools to document and understand the vast diversity of microbes living in different environments, including beneficial and pathogenic microbes living in and on us. Dr Eisen is leader in the open access movement of scientific publishing, which is a critical topic during the Covid-19 pandemic. Prof. Eisen is also a prominent science communicator.
