Luis El Srouji leads a discussion on Vector Symbolic Architectures (VSA). VSAs are a mathematical framework in which basis vectors encode some attribute (color, weight, etc) while some binding operation encodes the value on the attribute (red, 153 lbs, etc). These vectors can be encoded in a neural network on the activity of neurons such as the firing rate or using the Neural Engineering Framework (NEF) to distribute the vector over some population.
