This
interview is with Robert Blake, Professor and Chair Emeritus of Spanish and Portuguese. He was appointed in 1992 and retired in 2020.
Bob’s
research interests include Spanish linguistics, applied linguistics, language acquisition, and computer-assisted language learning. His teaching interests include History of Spanish, Spanish Syntax, Spanish Sociolinguistics, and Vocabulary Acquisition.
He
served as Chair of Spanish and Portuguese from 1993 to 1997 and as Co-Chair from 2001 to 2003. He was Founding Director of the UC Language Consortium, Director of the Davis Language Center and Director of the Summer Abroad Program “ The Three Cultures of Medieval
Spain”. He is an elected member of the North American Academy of Spanish Language and was named the “Distinguished Chair of Spanish Studies” at the University of Salamanca in 2013.
He
