Thanks for joining us
for a conversation about communication technologies and
practices used to support effective teaching at UC Davis. Instructors
use a wide variety of tools and strategies for staying in contact with
students during and between classes, including live chat backchannels,
Canvas Announcements, Canvas Inbox, email policies, templated
approaches, Discord, Piazza, and more.
A number of faculty “plants” shared stories about their favorite tools, and the ways they
have stayed in touch with students during this tumultuous multi-modal
quarter. We also talked about different technologies that many of us
have used during calmer times to communicate course policies and
content, support struggling students, or keep students apprised of both
our high expectations as well as available resources (teaching
assistants, office hours, standalone resources) that support them.
Faculty forums are informal and
conversational, and feature participants from across the disciplines. We
encourage attendees to join us to share their experiences, or just to
lurk while enjoying lunch at their desks. Either way, we hope you will
come share what works for you, and learn from others! You can find invitations to future events and reports of past events on The Wheel, our instructional technology blog, and recordings of past events in our ATS Channel here in AggieVideo.
