The Investiture of Gary S. May as the 7th Chancelllor of UC Davis.
Investiture is a formal ceremony of conferring the authority and symbols of high office. It begin with a procession of faculty and campus leaders in their caps and gowns and Ph.D. hoods (the color of each faculty member’s hood denotes where they earned their Ph.Ds.).
UC President Janet Napolitano will preside over the Investiture ceremony, removing May’s UC Berkeley hood — he received his master’s degree and Ph.D. at Berkeley — and replacing it with a UC Davis hood, and presenting him with the Chancellor’s Medal.
May will deliver remarks, and his longtime mentor, G. Wayne Clough, will give the keynote. Clough is secretary emeritus of the Smithsonian Institution and president emeritus of Georgia Tech.
The Investiture will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Mondavi Center’s Jackson Hall
