John & Mary Louise Riley Bodega Marine Laboratory Seminar Series:
Erica Nielsen:
"Conservation lessons from an evolutionary saga of
coastal invertebrates & climate change"
About Erica:
I am a postdoctoral researcher within the Bay Lab at UC Davis, currently
investigating the eco-evolutionary dynamics of a recent range expansion
by the Owl limpet, Lottia gigantea. More broadly, my research interests
lie in characterizing the adaptive potential of populations (mostly in
marine invertebrates) and modelling how species will respond to climate
change. Additionally, my work focuses on how molecular metrics can best
be integrated into conservation planning practices.
I am also passionate about making research accessible to everyone and
enjoy making various forms of science communication. I often blend my
hobbies with my research, such as creating dance-based educational
videos or talking about climate change at festivals/open-mic nights. I’m
happiest when on or near the water, and am always searching for a good
pun!
