This interview is with Victoria Smith, Professor and Chair Emerita of the Sociology. She was appointed in 1994 and retired in 2017.
Vicki’s research focuses primarily on changes in work and employment relationships, particularly how these changes create and perpetuate distinct forms of inequality and destabilization for American workers. She is also interested in the rise and institutionalization of temporary employment, workplace flexibility, worker participation programs, and how new labor market practices shape people's job search strategies. She was Chair of Sociology for 8 years and was involved in campus governance, serving as Chair of the Committee on Committees. Mentoring was an important part of Vicki’s career for which she received the 2016 Graduate Studies Distinguished Mentoring Award.
