Mike Chandler began his educational career
with UCD in 1967, and graduated in 1972, with a BS degree in Agricultural
Economics and Business Management. He was hired by the campus fire
department on January 4, 1968, as a Student Firefighter. In 1972, Mike
was then hired fulltime by the campus fire department. During his career
with the fire department Mike held the ranks of Student Firefighter, Senior
Student Firefighter, career Firefighter, Fire Specialist/Engineer, Captain/Assistant
Fire Marshal, and Assistant Fire Chief. In 1996, Mike was promoted to the
position of campus Fire Chief. Mike retired in 2004, with Chancellor Larry
Vanderhoef bestowing Chief Chandler with the Title of Emeritus. Mike then
went on to serve as Chief of the Yocha Dehe Fire Department for the next eight
years, retiring one last time in 2012.
